What fees does Shopify charge per sale?+
With Shopify Payments on the Basic plan, online card payments cost 2.9% + 30¢ in the US (2.7% on Grow, 2.5% on Advanced). There's no extra transaction fee when you use Shopify Payments.
What if I use PayPal or another payment provider?+
You pay that provider's own rate, and Shopify adds 2% (Basic), 1% (Grow) or 0.6% (Advanced) on top. Pick “PayPal / other” above to see the difference.
Why does the number of orders matter?+
Your Shopify plan is a fixed monthly cost. Spread over 20 orders it's a big part of each sale; over 500 orders it hardly counts. This is why small stores often do better on Etsy first.
Should I include ad spend?+
If you pay for Meta, TikTok or Google ads, yes — enter what you spend to get one sale. For most Shopify POD stores it's the biggest cost after the product itself.
